Lilly. So sweet and loving. She is so playful, and great with other dogs and children. Lilly will make a terrific family companion. She is our 2-3 year old baby who was recently rescued from death-row at a high-kill animal shelter. Too many dogs being bred, and too little space for these precious babies at the shelters.

She was dumped at the pound for no reason– her “owners” simply were irresponsible and callous, and had lost interest in her. She had given birth at the shelter to a couple adorable puppies, and was also used to help wean other orphaned puppies. Once her babies and other puppies found homes, she was scheduled for euthanasia.

Our kind rescuer went to the shelter and happened to come across Lilly, who desperately waited with pleading eyes for an angel to get her out of jail. The minute her cage door opened, Lady crawled into our rescuer’s lap, and greeted her– licking her face to give doggy-kisses. She wagged her tail and was so excited. Lilly was immediately bailed out, and was spayed.

A couple weeks after being rescued, her foster mom/rescuer discovered that she was bleeding whenever she urinated. Lilly was taken to the vet and we were told that she had a “stump” in her uterus, that had to be removed. Lilly’s rescuer gathered all the money she had to save her once again– a vet bill that amounted to more than $1,000.

Update (4/1/2006): Sadly, Lilly passed the Rainbow Bridge today. She suffered from kidney failure that could not be treated and her health was deteriorating. Lilly’s foster mom has spent thousands of dollars to do multiple ultrasounds, x-rays, etc. at various vet hospitals, including a necropsy to find out exactly what had gone wrong in her uterus which caused blockage in the kidneys. We are desperately raising money to repay the debt to the vets. Please consider donating to Lilly’s Fund.
