Penny - ADOPTED!

PennyAge: 3 years
Sex: Female
Breed: Chihuahua/Dachshund

Penny is a very special girl; she’s about 3 years old and black-colored with a small patch of white on her chest. She was once a homeless stray roaming the streets and now has become the most pampered princess of all.
When Penny lived on the streets with one other playmate (small mixed breed), many neighborhood residents complained and called animal control to take her away. Animal officers attempted but failed many times to catch Penny and her playmate. Later one day, Penny was found hobbling around the area with a huge tummy! Her big tummy prevented her from running away from the animal control truck, and she was eventually caught. Apparently, she was full-blown pregnant! In addition to her pregnancy, Penny was labeled at the pound as a “viscious and aggressive” dog. Because Penny was due to give birth any moment, the pound allowed her to have her puppies and wanted to put her to sleep shortly after her babies were weaned– as a result of Penny’s so-called “viscious” behavior, everyone thought she would be unadoptable! Not too many people understand that dogs can get protective of their pups and also fearful of new people after enduring months of neglect and starvation!
Penny and all her 5 pups were rescued in the knick of time. Penny was given a second chance to live and she turned out to be the sweetest, loving, and most affectionate dog. Obviously, the neglect she had experienced from her previous owners led her to lose her trust in humans.
Now, Penny is in great health BUT she needs some time to gain back her trust in humans– she LOVES belly rubs and will lean on your legs for warmth. She can be very shy at first and we have witnessed her growl and want to nip at new people. She needs to go to a home with mature adults with no young children. Penny enjoys being carried like a baby and will cuddle with you to take her naps. She loves to greet people and has a wonderful personality, not to mention her top-notch nurturing skills as a mother of 5 pups!
